The Importance of Pancasila Education as a Subject in Increasing Love for the Homeland.
A. Educational Background
Pancasila
In the
increasingly advanced development of the times and the era of globalization,
which certainly brings positive and negative impacts on the inhabitants of the
earth, especially the nation's future generations. To avoid the negative
impacts of globalization that will damage the nation, a sense of the spirit of
nationalism and patriotism inherent in the nation is needed. So it is necessary
to have values that are universal and their truth is believed to be used as
guidelines for living as a nation and state. Namely Pancasila Education.
In this
case, it has been agreed that Pancasila is the basis of t
he State which becomes
the guide for the nation to walk the next historical journey and as an effort
to shape the character of the nation, so that it will not deviate from the
noble values of Pancasila.
Understanding Pancasila, In Sanskrit, Pancasila consists of
the word panca which means five, and sila / syila which means
joint or foundation stone. The word sila comes from the word morality, which is
good behavior.

So, Pancasila Education is a process of acculturation or
cultural inheritance from the older generation to the younger generation so
that the younger generation does not lose their identity as the Indonesian
nation.

B. The objectives of
Pancasila Education
Pancasila education as part
of national education, has the aim of preparing students as qualified, highly
dedicated, and dignified undergraduate candidates so that:

To become individuals
who believe in and fear God Almighty;
2.
Physically and
mentally healthy, with noble character, and noble character;
3.
Have a solid,
independent, and responsible personality according to the day of your
conscience;
4.
Able to follow the
development of science and technology and the arts;
5. Able to participate in realizing a smart and prosperous life for the nation.
C. The Foundation of
Pancasila Education
Furthermore, Pancasila
education has foundations that have values that can be used as guidelines for
the nation;
1. The Historical
Foundation of Pancasila Education
Every
great nation has its own history and a great nation is a nation that respects
the history of its people. Pancasila is the "legacy of genius" of the
nation's founders. Pancasila is a historical fact of part of the process of the
nation and state of Indonesia. Pancasila is a very valuable historical result
so that we are able to agree to establish and defend the Unitary State of the
Republic of Indonesia to this day.
2. The Cultural Foundation
for Pancasila Education
, the Indonesian Nation bases its views on the people of society, nation
and state on a cultural principle that is related to and inherent in the nation
itself. The state and social values contained in the principles of Pancasila
are conceptual results and are only the work of the Indonesian people which are
lifted from cultural values related to the philosophical thought process of
state seekers. Therefore, the main information generation from the campus has
been required to explore and study these major works in an effort to preserve
them dynamically in the sense that they are developed in accordance with the
restoration of the times.
3. The foundation of the
Pancasila Education Philosophy
Intrinsically, the values of Pancasila are tangible and
philosophical in nature and in practice these values are in the form of a way
of life (philosophy of life) of the Indonesian people. This value is none other
than the unanimity of teaching regarding various aspects / fields of life of a
society / nation, in this case the Indonesian nation.

4. The Juridical
Foundation for Pancasila Education
The juridical (legal) foundation for Pancasila Education courses in
Higher Education has been regulated in Law no. 2 of 1989 concerning the
National Education System, article 39 which states, the content of the
curriculum for each type, path and level of education must contain Pancasila
Education, Religious Education, Citizenship Education.

The implication,
enrichment of Pancasila course material through a historical approach is
expected that students can take lessons or lessons from various historical
events, both national history and history of other nations.

the values of Pancasila were extracted from Indonesia's motherland. In other
words, Pancasila values come from the sociological life of Indonesian
society.

Political Sources of Education Pancasila
Pancasila as the basis
of the state is the foundation and source
of establishing and administering a rule of law. This means that the juridical
(legal) approach is one of the main approaches in the development or enrichment
of Pancasila education subject matter.
E. Challenges of Pancasila
Education
The
challenge is to determine the form and format so that Pancasila education
courses can be held in various study programs in an attractive and effective
manner. This challenge can come from internal universities, for example the
availability of resources, and the sharpening of specialization of study
programs. Meanwhile, external challenges include the crisis of exemplary
figures from the political elite and the proliferation of hedonistic lifestyles
in society.
F. Describing the Essence
and Urgency of Pancasila Education for the Future
The
Pancasila education course is education to provide students with understanding
and appreciation of the ideology of the Indonesian nation. With the hope that
the values of Pancasila will be internalized so that they become guiding
principles for students in developing their professionalism in accordance
with their respective majors / study programs.
In
learning Pancasila education, according to UNESCO, one of the pillars of
education becomes one of the references in the process, namely learning to
live together (Delors, 1996). Being the main reference, namely that
Pancasila education is intended in the framework of learning to build a life
together on the basis of awareness of the reality of diversity that needs each
other. So, if Pancasila education can run well, it is hoped that the problems
that arise as a result of not consistently implementing Pancasila, both by
citizens, apparatus and national leaders, can be minimized in the future.
Thus, based on the provisions
in Article 35 paragraph (3) of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 12
of 2012, it is emphasized that the implementation of Pancasila education in
tertiary institutions must be held and should be held as an independent course
and must be included in the respective curriculum College. Thus, the existence
of Pancasila education courses is the will of the state, not the will of
individuals or groups, for the realization of the state's goals.
So in conclusion, Pancasila
Education is needed because it has clear objectives and is based on foundations
that have values that can be learned and used as guidelines for the nation.
And it can increase the spirit of nationalism and patriotism of the Indonesian
people, especially the younger generations of the nation's future so that they
are not easily dragged into the negative impact of globalization which can
damage their homeland, namely the Indonesian nation.
